assessment drives instruction

I am a firm believer that assessment, in all its forms, acts to inform instruction. By triangulating my assessment on a daily basis, through conversations, observations, and products, I have a fulsome profile of each learner's stage and ability. Some of the tactics I like to utilize are guided reading groups, conferencing, diagrams/visual representation of learning, and co-constructed success criteria and rubrics.

Together, we figure out their areas of strengths, challenges, interests, and unique learning strategies. The students in my class know that they are active participants in their learning and assessment, not passive bystanders - this ownership comes through in their successes and, more importantly, their improvements as learners.
